Alongside Vesa DisplayHDR 600 certification, the panel is also the only monitor in this guide to run a refresh rate of 160Hz after overclocking.

Whilst this isnt strictly a gaming monitor, it still ticks all the right boxes for anyone looking to enjoy Playstation 5 gaming. Secondly, its the only panel in this guide to offer up OLED technology which, as many know, comes with an entire list of its own benefits.

The HDMI 2.1 compatible TV features a VRR for both FreeSync and G-Sync systems, HDMI 2.1 support, and a rapid >1ms response time. The OLED panel used within this TV provides a truly breathtaking visual experience that is head and shoulders above many of the competitors in this guide.

That being said, it does have its downfalls, with functionality, stand ergonomics, and general features lacking.

Last but not least, is the ASUS XG43UQ a large screen gaming monitor that goes toe-to-toe with the Gigabyte FV43U. It is almost identical in features and specifications, offering up similar (yet not quite as impressive) performance.

This monitor from ASUS is another HDMI 2.1 supportive panel, offering several ports which are great for gamers that utilize multiple devices. With VRR support, Vesa DisplayHDR 1000 certification, 144Hz refresh rate, and 1ms response time (MPRT) its hard to knock this monitor.

How We Choose And Test

Physically testing the products we recommend here at WePC is one of the fundamental factors that has helped us secure your trust in recent years.

For the best gaming monitors for PS5 article, we spent hours testing each monitor we recommended, using high-end equipment and testing methodology to conclude which are the best for your gaming needs.

We have a comprehensive article and how to test and choose our monitors, explaining many of the testing processes that occur during our selection process.

You can check out how we test monitors here.

Gaming Monitor Vs Gaming TV?

One of the big questions we get asked here at WePC is, should I choose a gaming monitor or a gaming TV for console gaming?

And its a really good question mainly because, historically, most console gamers would use TVs over gaming monitors. However, since gaming monitors are starting to get larger in size, the decision does start to become much more difficult.

Furthermore, because gaming consoles have become much more powerful in recent times, we need to start worrying about pixel response time, refresh rates, and adaptive sync technology especially if youre looking for the absolute best gaming experience.

For me, it all comes down to what you prioritize when gaming. For many, gaming is a casual activity that is more social than it is competitive. With that in mind, gaming on any TV with good picture quality and a 4K screen resolution will be more than enough. However, when we start to lean into the more competitive scenarios, large-screen gaming monitors start to become a much more attractive proposition.

More often than not, gaming monitors are much more responsive than gaming TVs or TVs in general for that matter. They dont suffer really as much from screen artifacts like screen tear, smearing, and ghosting, because they are equipped with specifications such as high refresh rates and low response times something many TVs cant boast.

Ultimately, a gaming monitor is still going to provide you with a better gaming experience. However, if you want a vessel that is great for both gaming and everyday use, some of the latest gaming TVs are more than equipped for the job at hand.

What To Look For When Buying The Best Gaming Monitor For PS5

If you arent fully up to speed on the latest monitor tech, its hard to determine which panel is best for your specific needs. For that reason, the following section will go over some of the realistic expectations of PS5 monitors and what you should be looking for when choosing one:

Size

The size of gaming monitors for consoles has definitely changed over the years, with many becoming smaller to gain a more competitive advantage. Thanks to the competitive nature of PlayStation 5 consoles, youll likely see many gamers playing on super-fast 27-inch panels over slower 40+inch alternatives.

The best gaming monitors for PS5 come in a variety of sizes nowadays, giving gamers the option to prioritize speed and responsiveness over image quality and immersion.

Price

One of the big issues with the best gaming monitors for PS5 is the price they come equipped with. To reap the benefits of PlayStation 5 consoles youll need a monitor that not only provides a UHD 4K screen resolution but an HDMI 2.1 port as well.

Unfortunately, this technology bumps up the price of gaming monitors exponentially. Some of the best monitors for PS5 range around the $1000 marker, so just keep this in mind if you are opting for the best of the best.

Screen Resolution

Screen resolution is a huge factor when youre looking to purchase a monitor for PS5 consoles mainly thanks to the fact that the next-gen console can push 4K image quality at 120Hz.

Like we said previously, to get the best visual experience possible, users should be looking to purchase a gaming monitor with a UHD (4K) screen resolution.

Having said that, its always worth remembering that many lesser screen resolution monitors offer better responsiveness.

HDMI 2.1

Lastly, we have the HDMI support of the monitor. HDMI 2.1 is the latest version of HDMI and the only version that allows you to play games in 4K screen resolution at 120Hz refresh rate.

This is huge for console gamers as it not only allows users to play at a greater screen resolution therefore upping the general picture quality but it also means they can utilize adaptive sync to remove annoying screen artifacts like tearing and smearing.

There arent that many gaming monitors in todays market that actually offer an HDMI 2.1 port, so just keep that in mind if you are looking for a new console-tailored monitor.

The Gigabyte FV43U is one of the latest and most anticipated gaming monitors the company offers. With an array of high-end specifications, the FV43U gets our best gaming monitor for PlayStation 5 spot, ticking all the right boxes when it comes to both casual and competitive play.

The FV43U may not offer a great deal when it comes to stand ergonomics, but it makes up for it in picture quality and general responsiveness. It features a crystal clear 4K screen resolution alongside an equally impressive 144Hz refresh rate and low 1ms response time (MPRT). Gaming on this thing is incredibly immersive thanks to a combination of specifications geared towards responsiveness and its large 43-inch panel size.

Furthermore, to allow users to reap the full rewards of all the PS5s features, the FV43U also comes equipped with HDMI 2.1 support allowing gamers to enjoy 4K gaming at 120Hz refresh rate. Whilst the OSD may look a little old school, it offers up a tonne of features all geared towards increasing your gaming experience. Color are another standout feature of this panel, offering up an impressive color gamut that covers 99% of the Adobe RGB spectrum. Alongside this, the panel also provides VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification, creating a stunning HDR experience that rivals many high-end TVs.

As for inputs, users can expect; 2 x USB 3.0, 1 x USB Type-C, 2 x HDMI 2.1, 1 x DisplayPort 1.4 (DSC), and 1 x 3.5mm audio out.

As far as gaming monitors for PS5 go, this has got to be one of the best the market has to offer. Granted, it might not have the screen immersion of the Gigabyte FV43U, but it more than makes up for it in general responsiveness and overall picture quality.

The Acer Nitro XV282K is one of the best HDMI 2.1 monitors the market has to offer. Alongside a stunning 4K screen resolution, the XV282K also brings a rapid 144Hz refresh rate to the table. This provides a silky smooth gaming experience that is void of annoying screen artifacts like tearing especially when paired with the PS5s VRR feature. Alongside this, the Xv282K also brings a speedy 1ms GTG response to the table that helps reduce general smearing and ghosting when playing titles with fast-moving images.

Whilst the XV282K does offer Vesa DisplayHDR 400 certification, HDR content isnt the most impressive on this panel. HDR 400 is the entry-level standard for high dynamic range, so it comes as no surprise. On the plus side, the panel does offer HDMI 2.1 support that allows gamers to reap the rewards of 4K gameplay at 120hz refresh rate. All this sets you back roughly $900, making the XV282K very good value for money when compared against similar specd alternatives.

The LG 27GP950-B is the successor to its fan-favorite 27GN950 a monitor that outperformed many of its rivals when looking at responsiveness. It comes to the table boasting many of the same features we saw in the GN950, however, with the addition of HDMI 2.1 support, this monitor now becomes much more PlayStation 5 friendly.

As many know, LG is easily one of the biggest names in the game, providing some of the best monitors the market has to offer. The 27GP950 is another fine example of the quality LG provides, offering up everything you could want for a stunning visual experience.

Again, this monitor provides a UHD 4K screen resolution, low 1ms response time (GTG w/ overdrive), and Vesa DisplayHDR 600 certification. Alongside that though, users will benefit from the new Nano IPS panel found at the heart of this monitor, equipped with stunning color accuracy and high peak brightness that make for a decent HDR experience. Utilize the monitors VRR technology to benefit from a smooth and artifact-free gaming experience that is hard to beat. It offers support for both FreeSync (Premium) and G-Sync systems, great for users that want a 2-in-1 monitor for both console and PC gaming.

The LG 27GP950 retails for $750, making it one of the cheapest options in this guide. For me, that is easily the best value for money on offer, putting it high on our list of considerations for any PlayStation 5 gamer.

The LG OLED48C1PUB is the only panel in this guide that comes equipped with OLED technology, offering self-lit pixels that provide truly stunning image quality. The pixels in the LG OLED48C1 can turn off independently, helping to create true blacks that cant be replicated by lesser panel technologies. If youre looking for a big screen experience that is great for gaming, movies, and everyday use, look no further LG have you covered.

That being said, OLED does come with its downsides one of which is the price. Whilst well touch upon price a bit more later, know that this TV is the most expensive option in this guide. Having said that, it still offers up excellent value for money when everything is considered.

The LG OLED TV comes equipped with HDMI 2.1 support, a 120Hz refresh rate, and low >1ms response time pairing together for a tear-free gaming experience that is void of smearing, blurring, and other annoying screen artifacts. The low response time ensures that ghosting is to an absolute minimum when playing fast-paced games, with the refresh rate helping to create smooth visuals as well.

The 48 TV isnt the biggest in this guide, but it is the best in terms of color reproduction and contrast ratio. For many games, OLED technology will be wasted better utilized for high-definition movies and Tv shows. Having said that, gaming still looks absolutely fantastic.

Like all OLED products, the LG 48 C1 does run the risk of permanent burn-in if left on a still image. That being said, burn-in is becoming less problematic, especially when services now offering anti-burn features.

Finally, we have the ASUS ROG STRIX XG43UQ a large screen gaming panel that is another final example of ASUSs high-end build quality and performance. Whilst this may look more like a TV than a gaming monitor, lets not take anything away from its performance it really does offer everything you could want for an excellent console gaming experience.

The ROG STRIX XG43UQ is one of the latest monitors to come out of the ASUS arsenal, equipped with all the high-end features you could want including variable OD, FreeSync premium, ELMB, and a tonne of additional gaming features.

Features aside, raw performance is where this monitor truly shines. It provides a 144Hz refresh rate and low response time which, when paired together, offer up a smooth gaming experience that is void of screen artifacts like tearing, smearing, and ghosting. The VA panel in this monitor is almost identical to the Gigabyte FV43U, offering up a wide color gamut that covers 90% of the DCI-P3 space, 4000:1 native contrast ratio, and Vesa DisplayHDR 1000 certification. With a 4K screen resolution, this monitor offers up excellent picture quality that is on par with the other big-screen gaming panels in this guide.

The only real downside to this panel is the price tag it falls into the $1200 price pool which, you guessed it, puts it in direct competition with the OLED gaming TV.

Is HDMI 2.1 Available?

The answers simple, yes, yes it is! HDMI 2.1 has been available in few TVs since the back end of 2020. However, it is only just becoming available in PC hardware. Monitors are now coming to shelves offering HDMI 2.1 support, allowing next-gen console gamers to reap the rewards of an increased max transmission rate.

What Is An HDMI 2.1 Port?

HDMI 2.1 is the latest standard of the HDMI specification. Alongside a better max transmission rate, the new standard also offers a greater Max Data Rate and higher resolution/refresh rate support enabling [emailprotected] gameplay.

Do You Need HDMI 2.1 For 4K?

Whilst you do get a better gaming experience for HDMI 2.1, it isnt essential for 4K resolutions. Both HDMI 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 have the capacity to run 4K resolutions both at 60Hz as well.

Do You Need HDMI 2.1 For 120Hz?

For PC gamers, getting a 120Hz output is fairly light work covered nicely by the DisplayPort standard. The same can actually be said for console players too as HDMI 2.0 can effectively reach 1080p @ 240Hz.

That being said, HDMI 2.0 does limit your refresh rate when you plan to game at 4K resolutions. To achieve 120Hz gameplay through a next-gen console, you will indeed need an HDMI 2.1 TV or monitor.

Is HDMI 2.1 A Firmware Update?

No, HDMI 2.1 is not a firmware update. Unfortunately, there is no way to update your old monitor or HDMI cable to 2.1 standard. It is a physical change that has allowed the increased bandwidth of video/audio meaning a new cable, monitor, and sometimes GPU are required.

Final Word

So, there you have it, our comprehensive guide to the best gaming monitors for PS5 consoles in 2021. Hopefully, this guide has made choosing your next monitor a little bit easier, taking away some of the stigmas that currently surround monitor technology. For me, every monitor in our guide offers superb gaming performance and incredible picture quality thanks to the 4K screen resolutions they offer.

Each offers up HDMI 2.1 support, meaning youll be able to get the most from your PS5 console. And whilst color accuracy isnt the key consideration with gaming monitors, many of the selections we chose offer up excellent color reproduction and HDR performance.

If you have any questions regarding the monitors we chose, feel free to drop us a comment in the section below.
