Thanks @Swoosh2!
Please double check that you're creating the Authorization header value correctly - I'm assuming that you've successfully exchanged the authorization code for an access token, as documented in Step 4 in the Authorization Guide.
I've found that a common reason for this problem is that the base 64 encoded string has been created with a new line, e.g. echo {client_id}:{client_secret} | base64 -
instead of echo -n {client_id}:{client_secret} | base64 -
.
If you're still having this issue, please create a new issue ticket for it so that we can focus on the 500 response in this one. It's easier to get an overview of the status of existing bugs that way.
Regarding the 500 response, it's easy to reproduce it and we'll have to have a look closer at it. Good catch!
Example:
$ curl -ik -X POST "//accounts.spotify.com/api/token" HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error Server: nginx Date: Tue, 29 Mar 2016 05:20:51 GMT Content-Type: application/json Content-Length: 24 Connection: keep-alive Keep-Alive: timeout=10 {"error":"server_error"}

What is the meaning of the 500 Internal Server Error?
The 500 Internal Server Response code indicates that the website has encountered an unexpected condition that is this evening it from fulfilling the request.
It’s a generic catch-all response that shows that the server cannot find a better error code in response. This error code is a very general HTTP status code on the website server but isn’t precisely the exact problem.
Quick Tip:
The Opera browser has a VPN proxy that allows you to connect to a few servers. Accessing Opera and connecting to a different server is helpful when you have internal server issues with another browser.
When you click on the blue VPN box, a drop-down menu appears, allowing you to switch the VPN on or off and pick a location.

With the built-in VPN, you can change the location and bypass internal server issues in NGINX.
What can I do to fix the 500 Internal Server Error in NGINX?
