  • Have you cleared the stored creds in credential manager?

  • Yes. Yes I have, numerous times! No dice :(

  • I tried...Quick repairOnline RepairCompletely removed and reinstalled Office Completely removed and reinstalled OneDriveCleared Credential Manager manually numerous times (each time there's like 50 credentials, all called "msteams_adalsso/adal_contect_1"  and "msteams_adalsso/adal_contect_2" and so on.

To address the above, I have entered the following Registry Key...

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Office \ 16.0 \ Common \ Identity Name = DisableADALatopWAMOverride Type = DWORD Value = 1

Now, I don't see these credentials swamping Credential Manager anymore, when trying in vain to sign in.

I have not tried to remove all Office products using Microsoft's usual script yet but would want to leave that as an absolute last resort as I have InfoPath, SharePoint Designer, Skype for Business, Project, Visio and Teams installed as well and the tool will blindly remove all office apps.

  • Sorted!

Problem was with an obscure setting in OneDrive, FFS.

I just toggled the "Use Office 2016 to sync Office files that I open" button, waited a few minutes and toggled it back again. Now this annoying issue is finally over! Urgh.

  • fnanfne  Hey, how did you get that menu? I right clicked my "OneDrive" folder on my PC and selected "Properties", and I got a different menu:

    attach_file Attachment Capture2.png 17.9 KB

  • right clic kthe ondrive icon and go to settings from the ... (more) button

  • Thank you so much fnanfne. It worked for me. I'll pass this on to the Microsoft team which was trying to help me with several issues of which this was one.

  • Had this same problem with a user today, but unfortunately i didn't have time to proper investigate.

Does anyone know how to actually recreate the problem, or the condition(s) that cause it to happen? After an hour fiddling around with things on my own computer, everything was still working as intended. I even used a mifi to connect through VPN, as the user was.

  • Now after having done all the above (including the emptying ALL cached credentials) If I turn this switch OFF the problem goes away.

We cant upload or download as your cached credentials have expired

But as above says if I turn it back on the problem stays and does not go away.

WHEN the switch is ON I get this.

We cant upload or download as your cached credentials have expired
If I open the file (with the switch ON) in Office Online, no issues.

Desktop and my documents redirection is on and I really do NOT want to turn it off.

So right now I left the switch OFF since it's 100% a Onedrive issue.  At this point I'm not sure how to proceed.  I at least got the user working (thanks to the solution above) but it didn't solve my issue in my instance.

  • So if turning off autosave is repairing the challenge for the user then maybe try opening Word and goto File then Office Account and signout of the account that is logged in activating Office, Sometimes I have to hit Signout multiple times to get it back to Sign In.

then go to Windows Settings and Accounts - Access Work or School and then remove all the accounts showing except the one for your local AD domain and reboot.

After the reboot open Word and Sign in to Office 365 and then test and report back behavior.

I now have this on 2 computers and turning off the feature resolves it. (which is a work around)

    Hmmmm

jumping on this thread and I may create a new one.  I'd deleted all cached credentials for each user and re-logged in and boom the problem recurs.. i.e. a constant login loop that never resolves.  (and I do not see the login attempts with a bad pw in my local AD/I don't have rights to check upstream in Azure)

  • For me, this occured as follows:

*On employers network, I set up Onedrive and other Microsoft products on generic group username and password, we'll call it Group Employees.

*There other day our IT guy came in and gave me a personalized username and password, JohnDoe. As our network is Ft Knox style locked...

    * I then had to download Onedrive and Microsoft ext... Immediately, all this happened on bother usernames on the work desktop and home.

Not sure if this helps or was en related but it we worked!

This thread totally saved my weekend. Thanks guys!!

  • I navigated to the Credential Manager and edited the password for OneDrive ID. After that , I restarted the machine and it is able to work.
