What did the story of Malin Kundang tell about

A long time ago in the place named Air Manis Village in Padang, West Sumatra. There was a woman named Mande Rubayah.

Previously, Mande Rubayah lived with her husband in a forest village. But their life there is less fortunate. In order to change their life, they moved to a fisherman village near the beach.

In that place, Mande Rubayahs husband changed his livelihood, from encroaching on forest products to becoming a fisherman. They feel very grateful because our lives now are better than before.

Several years of life in the fisherman village, they are blessed with a son named Malin Kundang. Malin Kundang is very loved by his parents.

When Malin Kundang was at 10 years old, he was always invited by his father to the sea. His father taught him how to be a good fisherman. Their father hopes, later, Malin Kundang becomes a tough young man, skilled as a true fisherman so that he is able to fulfill his own needs.

Even though he was still a child, we can show that Malin Kundangs character is strong-willed, has a smart brain and he is also good at socializing, so that his friends like him.

One day, his father went to the sea.

Malin Kundang! Dad leaves, be careful in the house with your mother, dont be naughty! said his father.

Yes father, Malin will be alright with mother. Answer the son.

My wife I will go. Please take care of Malin!

Dont worry, I will take care of our only children with my body and soul. Just go, our prayers are with you. said Mande Rubayah

Not like usual, Mande Rubayah feels a strange feeling in her heart. She doesnt know why she has a feeling like that.

One day, the fisherman village is stricken by a deadly disease. There are so many people who suffer from that disease. Malin Kundang is one of those people.

Mande Rubayah was getting more and more restless because its been a few days, her husband not coming back home yet. While Malins condition is getting worse day by day.

What happened to my husband, why he hasnt come home for a week, is he getting a disaster in the sea? Ask Mande Rubayah silently.

With all of her heart, she tried to cure Malin. She brought a famous tabib to give a good medicine to her son. She also prays day and night for the recovery of his son.

Because of her serious efforts and the sincerity of her prayers. Malin Kundangs condition gradually improved, and not too long after that, his son was cured of his illness.

My son finally recovered, said Mande Rubayah, full of gratitude to God.

Malins life can be saved because of a mothers hard work. After recovering from his disease, he is more loved.

Because she doesnt know the news of her husband again, Mande Rubayah must work very hard to fulfill their needs by selling cakes. Everyday she sells her cakes to the village. The result is not bad, enough for her and her son.

The days passed, now Malin Kundang has grown into a teenager. The results of his fathers upbringing are still imprinted and rooted in himself. He has often come across the sea with another fisherman.

Hes grown into a smart and strong young man. When he goes to the sea, his catch always exceeds other friends.

Malin Kundang really loves his mother. He is also known as a young man who is friendly and not arrogant. Thats why his friend loves him so much.

But, he was not satisfied with his condition. Oftentimes he sits in the seashore while contemplating.

If I stay here, my fate will remain this way. Think Malin Kundang. I dont want my fate to remain like this, my mother is already old. As a child I have never done something that makes her happy.

I will go wander, who knows, maybe my fate will be good. If someday Ill become a rich man, I will tell my mother to live with me. I will build a nice and beautiful house for her.

That kind of dream makes Malin often look sad and daydreaming. Her mother finally ask him why

What are you daydreaming about my son? said Mande Rubayah

Oh, mother.no maam its okay. replied Malin Kundang

Is it because you are already in puberty? then I have to find a girl as a companion in your life?

AhIve never thought about that.

Then what are you hiding from me? Just try to tell me.

With a heavy heart finally he said to his mother. Momallow me to go wander, to speculate and seek sustenance.

But my child.arent we never in trouble. I am still able to fulfill our needs by continuing selling cake.

Thats true momif just to eat that enough. But, is mother already satisfied with life conditions like this?

So what do you want, Malin?

Mom, I always dream about a nice house, beautiful and expensive clothes for you to use. Our fate must change so you dont need to sell cake anymore. If I succeed I will hire several servants which will fulfill everything that you need.

Mande Rubayah touched hearing her son say. Suddenly, her tears trickled down in her cheeks.

Oh Malin.so you want to go wander only to please and make your mother happy. You have a noble dream. It proves that you really are a filial child.

Indeed, that is my dream mom.

Then, if that is really your dream, then go. You can go anytime when you feel ready.

After making preparations as necessary, Malin Kundang leaves his hometown at Air Manis beach. The mother takes it off with tears and prayer accompaniment.

Oh my god, please protect my son from all kinds of distress.

After several times on the way. Malin arrives in a big harbor which is crowded with the traders and big sailing ships.

In the harbor dock, he saw a big ship who was about to get ready to sail to the country across. Malin approached that ship.

He meet with ships captain

I was looking for a job on a ship. Can you give me, Sir? I will do everything that you told me.

Is it true that you want to work on this ship?

Yes sir!

From then on Malin worked as a merchant ship crew. He started his work as a deck cleaner.

Because he is diligent and smart, he was loved by the ships captain. The ships captain, who did not have children, presumed Malin as his own son. Malin was taught how to steer the ship.

When the ships captain was old, Malin was appointed as his successor. Malin grew up to become a very smart and talented trader. In several years, he already has his own ship. He trades to various countries. After several years he became a famous young trader.

In a harbor in Malaka country, he built magnificent buildings for his trade offices. The story about his success and fame was heard until Minang, the place of his birth.

Malin Kundang also married a beautiful girl, daughter from a wealthy merchant. Malins life is getting more stable and happier.

Meanwhile, the days passed slowly for Mande Rubayah, every morning and evening Mande Rubayah looked out over the sea. She asked silently, where is her son now?

She raised her hands upward as she prayed so that her son was safe on the voyage.

If a ship arrives and docked at the sea near her house, she is always asking about her son.

But all the crew or the captains ship never give her a satisfactory answer.

Malin never leaves any item or a message to his mother.

Thats what Mande Rubayah did everyday for years.

Her body is getting old with age. If she walked, she began to walk very slowly.

On one day, Mande Rubayah got news from a friend who had wandered to Malaka, that right now Malin has been married with a beautiful girl, a daughter of a rich aristocrat. She was happy to hear that news. She always prays that her son would be safe and come back, so that she can see her son again.

Mother is getting old Malin, when will you come back? Mande Rubayah groaned every night. Oh my god.please protect my son from all kinds of distress, make him come to me before the end comes for me.

However, it has been months since she received the news, Malin hasnt come to see her yet. However she is sure that someday Malin will come back.

Her wish came true. One day, from a distance it appears a beautiful ship sailing to the beach.

When the ship begins to dock, it appears a young couple stand on the bridge. Their clothes sparkle in the sun. Their faces were bright with smiles. They seem happy because they were greeted with great fanfare.

Mande Rubayah, who is already old, lies sick in her house. Burhan and his wife, Malins friends since childhood, immediately come to Mande Rubayah. They carry Mande Rubayah which wobbles on the beach.

With great difficulty, Mande Rubayah jostled to see and approached the ship. Her heart was pounding hard. She is very sure that the young man is her loved son, Malin Kundang.

Before the village elders could welcome, Malins mother first approached Malin. She immediately hugged Malin tightly. As if afraid of losing her son again.

My son, Malin, said her, holding back sobs of joy. Why didnt you give me the news for so long?

Malin was stunned because he was hugged by an old woman who was dressed in rags. He doesnt believe that woman is his mother.

The old woman lying in the sand. Burhan and his wife could hardly believe they saw that incident.

Malin.! shouted Burhan. How stiff are you? She is your mother! Your own biological mother!

Mande Rubayah gasped, really broke her heart, with a limp she said softly. Okay young man, maybe my eyes are nearsighted, mistaking people. For that, Ill apologize. I am sorry to you because I have been bothering you.

Well, thats how you should have known yourself a long time ago! said Malin.

Suddenly Mande Rubayah was able to stand up straight. She doesnt know what strength comes with it. Her eyes flashed when she said..

Malin Kundang and his wife, along with the entire ship crew and the crowd goosebumps hearing the words of Mande Rubayah.

Burhan, lets leave this place! said Mande Rubayah. The woman was immediately carried to her house.

The crowd was stunned and then returned to their respective homes. Malin Kundangs group also came back to ship. Not long ago, the Air Manis beach was deserted. The ship sailed out to sea leaving a wasted trace of an old mothers disappointment.

On a luxury yacht, Malin Kundang looks restless. However he cant lie to himself. He was horrified to imagine his mothers curse.

There was a feeling of regret in his heart. Why do I have the heart to do that, even though she is my own biological mother.

Because of what my wife said and insulted, he joined in insulting his own mother.

Oh mom..! Malins wife accidentally heard a low scream from Malin Kundangs lips. Forgive your son..!

Malins wife who was beside him was shocked to hear what her husband said.

My husband.! Whats the matter? Is that old woman really your mother? asked Malins wife anxiously.

The ship continues to move out to sea. Monkey Mountain continues towards Malaka. Suddenly, the weather that was sunny changed completely into dark, not long after, it rained heavily with a thunderstorm.

If nature is angry, there will be no arrogance for humans. They just did their best, then surrendered to the creator of nature.

The entire ship crew was gripped with fear.

Malin Kundang came out of the booth to the deck of the ship. He tried to give his men directions to control the ship that was out of direction.

Suddenly, the shadow of his old mother appeared. Also imagined when he pushed that woman into the ground.

Mommmm.! unconsciously he shouted for his mother. Malins wife was shocked, she went to the deck too, seeing her husband confused and afraid like seeing a ghost.

My husband.what happened.? Asked Malins wife with great fear and worry.

That womanthat old and poor woman..she is my own mother.!

Its true! I have been disobedient with my own mother, the mother who has conceived and raised me with her water of milk and affection, really I have sinnedreally I regret it!

My husband, why didnt you say that earlier?

Malin does not hear his wifes statement anymore. The roar of the waves and the lightning intertwined, adding a spooky atmosphere at sea, the ship swerved to and fro without control.

Suddenly waves as high as a hill, crashing and lunging at the hull of the ship. The ship was badly shaken, Malins wifes body thrown off to sea which was raging.

My husband.! Help meeeee..!

Malin could only look at his wifes body which fell into the sea. Let alone to help his wife, he couldnt even save himself. One by one the ship crew were also thrown off into the sea, Malin increasingly panicked and scared.

Mom..forgive me..remove your curse.!

But the sound of the roar of the waves and storm, too loud and powerful, swallowed the voice of a human child who was like a speck of dust in the middle of the ocean.

Mom forgive meeeee.!

Old mothers pain had turned into a mighty force of nature. Sea waves are getting more violent, accompanied by storms and blaring thunder. Swallowed Malins scream for forgiveness from his mother.

Inevitably, in the Air Manis bay, Malins ship crashed and ran aground. Malin Kundang died.

When the morning sun shines, the storm has died down. At the foot of the hill seem the pieces of ship who have turned into stone. Thats the Malin Kundang ship. Not far from that place seemed a hunk of rock that resembled a human body. It is said that its the body of Malin Kundang, the disobedient son who was cursed by his mother. Between the rocks swim anchovies, mullet fish, mackerel fish. Its said the fish comes from the body parts of the wife who kept looking for Malin Kundang.
