Why my live chat not working on YouTube

I want to display my YouTube Livestream chat replay.

This is the code I tried:

ps: I have input the correct video ID in VIDEO_ID & MY_DOMAIN is correctly input.

When I run this code, I am able to successfully watch my Livestream again. But, the Livestream chat replay does not appear.

It shows: "Chat is disabled for this Livestream."

I further went to research on Google and set this:

  • Allowed embedding in YouTube studio
  • Made it 'Not for kids'
  • No, don't restrict my video to viewers over 18 only
  • Allowed all comments
  • Livechat replay is enabled

But my code still doesn't work, it keeps showing 'Chat is disabled for this Livestream '.

ps: The Livestream ended about 20 hours ago, so the video has been processed.

Can someone guide me in the right direction to display my 'Live chat Replay'?

I believe that the only way of fixing it is to change mentioned earlier "User-Agent" header in HTTP request to a desktop one, like:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/60.0.3112.78 Safari/537.36

Maybe the issue will be fixed from the YouTube side someday.

Why my live chat not working on YouTube

This seems to have been caused by a user on YouTube picking the username "live_chat" for their channel, which conflicted with YouTube's own chat embed code.

Having reported the problem to YouTube using their feedback option and including a screenshot of the user's channel, within 24 hours YouTube had fixed the issue!

Now embedding YouTube's live chat works on Android devices without the need to request the desktop version of the site in Chrome or alter the user-agent in any way!

Live streaming on YouTube has become increasingly popular over the past few years thanks to the many refinements and new features Google has been adding to its platform.

Unlike regular videos, creators/streamers can interact with their fans in real-time during live streams via the live chat comments section.

Why my live chat not working on YouTube

However, it seems many live streamers on YouTube are experiencing issues while trying to use the live chat section to interact with their viewers.

According to most complaints, streamers or moderators on the channel are unable to share messages with the viewers since the messages do not show up in the live chat section.

We’ve shared a few reports from affected users below for reference:

TeamYoutube, I live-streamed a few days back only to find out that the viewers could not see the messages I sent in live chat. I had to pin them for them to see them. I just entered a stream and found out that the streamer can’t even see my messages. (Source)

We @TBurnettwork moderators were posting links in the live chat today and those comments couldn’t be seen by anyone, even other moderators. Only the moderator who posted the link could see it. Any idea when that problem will be fixed? (Source)

Is YouTube Live Chat down? I group I’ve been moderating for has been trying for the past 3 hours to do it and it’s not working. (Source)

As you can see, neither the mods nor the streamers are able to interact with their viewers through the live chat since none of the viewers are able to see any message from them.

Moreover, the issue appears to have been around for at least a couple of weeks and has not been fixed at the time of writing.

Thankfully, YouTube is aware of the problem with the live chat and had even claimed that they have fixed it.

However, it appears that there was some confusion and thus the information provided by YouTube support turned out to be false and the issue is still being worked upon.

Since the live chat comments issue on YouTube has been acknowledged already, it shouldn’t be long before the functions are restored back to normal.

Of course, we will continue tracking the situation and will post an update once the problem is fixed for all.

In the meantime, you can keep an eye out on our dedicated tracker to know the status of all known bugs and issues reported on YouTube.
