Hard Reset Your iPhone

Sometimes iPhone software crashes, which can cause the screen to flicker. Hard resetting your iPhone will force it to abruptly turn off and back on, which can sometimes fix the problem.

There are a few different ways to perform a hard reset, depending on which iPhone you have:

• iPhone 8 and newer models: Press and release the volume up button, then press and release the volume down button, then press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears on the screen.
• iPhone 7 and 7 Plus: Simultaneously press and hold down the power button and the Volume Down button until the Apple logo flashes onto the display.
• iPhone SE, 6s, and earlier models: Press and hold the power button and the Home button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears on the display.

You can release the buttons you’re holding onto as soon as the Apple logo appears. If your iPhone screen continues to flicker after turning back on, move onto the next step!

Does The Screen Flicker When You Open A Specific App?

If your iPhone screen only flickers when you use a certain app, there’s probably a problem with that app, not your iPhone. First, I recommend closing the app to see if we can fix a minor software problem.

You’ll have to open the app switcher to close an app on your iPhone. The iPhone 8 and earlier, double-press the Home button. On the iPhone X and later, swipe up from the bottom to the center of the screen. Now that you’ve opened the app switcher, close your app by swiping it up and off the top of the screen.

If your iPhone screen still flickers when you open the app, you may have to delete the app and reinstall it or find an alternative. To delete an iPhone app, lightly press and hold on its icon on your iPhone’s Home screen. Then, tap the small X that appears. Confirm your decision by tapping Delete!

Turn Off Auto-Brightness

Many iPhone users have had success fixing their flickering iPhone screen by turning off Auto-Brightness. To turn off Auto-Brightness, open Settings and tap Accessibility -> Display & Text Size. Finally, turn off the switch next to Auto-Brightness!

DFU Restore Your iPhone

We still can’t rule out a software problem even if your iPhone display is still flickering. To try and fix a deeper software problem, put your iPhone in DFU mode and restore it.

A DFU restore erases and reloads all of the code that controls your iPhone. Before putting your iPhone in DFU mode, we strongly recommend saving a backup of the information on your iPhone.

Fix 1: Force restart your iPhone

Since many technical problems can be resolved by a restart, it never hurts to reboot your iPhone. Sometimes that’s enough to fix the iPhone screen flickering.

You can perform a hard reboot on your iPhone/iPad. Here’s what you need to do:

• If you’re using iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X, follow these steps:

1. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button,
2. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button, then
3. Press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.

• If you’re using iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus:

Press and hold both the Side button and Volume Down button for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

• If you’re using iPhone 6s and earlier:

Press and hold the Home button and Top button for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

Check if your flickering screen works properly after restart.

Fix 2: Upgrade iOS software

Sometimes the outdated iOS software in your iPhone will cause buggy issues and you should upgrade it to the latest version. By doing so, you’ll fix the bugs and have the best possible experience.

1. Open your iPhone, and launch the Settings app.
2. Go to General > Software Update.

Enabling Reduce Transparency feature in your iPhone can help fix the screen flickering issue. Here’s what you need to do:

1. On your iPhone, launch the Settings app.
2. Go to General > Accessibility.
   
3. Tap Increase Contrast > Reduce Transparency, and turn on Reduce Transparency.
   
4. Restart your iPhone and see if it works.

Still no luck? Okay, there’s one more thing to try.

As you should know, the insufficient memory in your iPhone can also cause issues like the flickering screen, so you should check the iPhone storage and free up more space.

1. On your iPhone, launch the Settings app.
2. Go to General > Storage & iCloud Usage.
   
3. Check Available storage and see if your device has enough storage space.
   

   If not, try deleting some messages, photos, and applications that you don’t need, in order to get more storage space.

4. Then restart your iPhone and see if your issue has been resolved.
